In line with other manufacturers like Ford, Honda is making the Passport more rugged for the refreshed 2022 model year.

To mark the improvements, Honda is giving this new Passport trim level the name TrailSport. While there won’t be any major mechanical improvements, the trim level will offer more capable clearances and more aggressive styling.

Inside the Passport Trailsport buyers will find some new creature comforts as well as some outstanding standard technology. Let’s go down the path and learn a bit more about the 2022 Honda Passport Trailsport.

A Book With A More Rugged Cover

Very few buyers seem to think of Honda in the same off-road spaces that they think of Land Rover, Jeep, or Ford existing in. That’s despite the fact that Honda has been in the off-road business for more than half of a century. During that time they’ve created numerous ATVs, light trucks, and motorcycles that have kept going when the road ran out.

Adding to that legacy, the 2022 Honda Passport will feature a 280-horsepower V6, a 9-speed automatic, and all-wheel-drive with torque vectoring. The Trailsport also gets 8.1-inches of ground clearance, and an exterior to remind onlookers that this SUV means business.

Plus, the entire front clip of the vehicle (from the front bumper to the A-pillar) has been updated with more sporty styling. Much of the exterior trim like the crossbar that bisects the headlights and the one under the rear window will be painted in matte black.

There’s even a Honda Performance Development package (HPD for short).  And it adds a unique grille, more aggressive wheels, and black fender flares for those that want a bit more…flare.

The change in styling hits at an important opportunity from Honda’s standpoint. Executive VP of Operations for American Honda Motor Company, Dave Gardner said “Some may not realize the true rugged, off-road capabilities of our light trucks… Now they’re getting tough, rugged looks to match, and the addition of TrailSport will further enhance the off-road capability of our vehicles in the future.”

Technology Continues to Shine in the 2022 Honda Passport

Honda has never been one to shrink back from offering its customers outstanding standard technology.

Every Passport that rolls off the line will get Honda Sensing, a suite of advanced driver safety aids. They include lane-keeping assist, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation.

Honda also includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system fully equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Outside, the 2022 Honda Passport gets LED headlights. The Trailsport, EX-L, and Elite trim levels will get either 18-inch or 20-inch wheels.
