Subaru is going for the dark and brooding look with the 2022 Subaru Ascent Onyx Edition release. The company’s largest crossover will now be available with an all-black exterior mimicking similar treatments from Toyota and Nissan. In addition, Subaru announced the existing Ascent lineup would carry over for the 2022 model year without any price increase.
And the price freeze is notable considering Subaru and its Ascent have taken a hit due to the global chip shortage. Industry reports reveal that the automaker’s U.S. arm has lost more than 45,000 sales to the semiconductor crisis. This figure includes more than 10,000 Ascent models not be sold with the shutdown of Subaru’s Indiana plant.
Trim Levels For The 2022 Subaru Ascent
With the inclusion of the Onyx Edition, the 2022 Subaru Ascent will now feature five different trims. Plus, the Onyx will slot in above the entry-level Base and Premium offerings. At the same time, the upscale Limited and Touring models will price above the Ascent in Onyx trim.
Additionally, the Onyx Edition incorporates Premium trim equipment like blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert along with some extras. These bonuses include a heated steering wheel and a hands-free power liftgate.
Moreover, exclusive 20-inch blacked-out wheels and Subaru’s StarTrex water-repellent upholstery are standard Onyx-trim equipment. Further, a $2,200 Onyx upgrade option adds a panoramic moonroof, navigation, and a retractable cargo cover.
Pricing and Features
Priced at $32,295, the Base 2022 Subaru Ascent includes tri-zone front and rear automatic climate control and a rearview camera. Also standard are steering-controlled LED headlights, and Subaru’s EyeSight advanced safety system with adaptive cruise control and lane centering.
So, the Premium costs $34,795 and adds an 8-way power driver seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, and privacy glass. Other onboard goodies include an upgraded infotainment system and improved climate control. In addition, Subaru includes the All-Weather Package with heated mirrors and front seats and a windshield de-icer.
Then, the $37,995 Onyx Edition model includes its exclusive equipment and is only available in a seven-passenger setup. However, an eight-passenger configuration is available in all other Ascent models except for the top-trim Touring model.
And, the Ascent Limited starts at $39,595 and adds leather-trimmed seats, reverse automatic braking, and keyless entry with a push-button start.
The 2022 Subaru Ascent Touring model, which begins at $45,445, includes numerous cabin upgrades. So, inside you’ll find a panoramic moonroof and upgraded cabin trim and perforated leather seating. In addition, the infotainment system gets an upgrade with standard navigation and a Harmon Kardon sound system.
All 2022 Subaru Ascent prices exclude a $1,125 destination charge.
