2022 VW Jetta Reveal: A New Take on a Favorite Classic
So, the latest Jetta comes standard with the VW Taos’ EA211 engine. And this powerplant puts off 154 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, and it’s more fuel-efficient than past versions thanks to its renewed design.
Plus, the engine is paired up with a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission for a custom driving experience.
Several things set the EA211 engine apart from similar-sized powerplants:
- APS-coated cylinders, which lower the amount of friction between the cylinder liner and piston rings.
- A more efficient cooling module that keeps engine temps low.
- An updated pressure injection system that’s more efficient at mixing fuel and oxygen.
- Variable Turbine Geometry (VTR), one of the most advanced turbos available in North America.
In the GLI, VW opted for a more powerful EA888 engine. So, this one creates 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
Additionally, it comes with standard six-speed manual transmission and the option for seven-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Both models use VW’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform. But in the GLI, the platform works with the XDS Cross Differential System and the DCC adaptive damping system for enhanced handling.
