It’s been a long time since we’ve seen an all-new Toyota Sequoia.

The outgoing generation arrived on the scene back when George W. Bush was still the President.

Thankfully, it seems like the old adage, good things come to those who wait is going to hold true with regard to the all-new 2023 Toyota Sequoia.  And, it’s packed with modern technology, modern power, and modern fuel efficiency.

A New Powertrain For The 2023 Toyota Sequoia

The outgoing Sequoia uses a potent but aging V8 that makes 381-horsepower and sends it to the wheels through an also old-school six-speed automatic transmission. When it first came out, it was a brute, and even today, it’s a powerful package. What it struggles to do though is provide reasonable fuel economy. Toyota has seriously addressed that with the new 2023 Sequoia by using a twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine and a 10-speed automatic.

This is the same i-FORCE MAX engine originally debuted in the Tundra last year and it makes 437-horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. While Toyota hasn’t released any details on exactly what kind of miles per gallon this SUV will get, we can be sure it’ll be a leap forward. The Tundra gained 7 mpg combined when switching to this engine. And the Sequoia could do even better since it’s likely to be lighter.

This new drivetrain also allows the 2023 Toyota Sequoia to tow more than it ever has before. Maximum towing capacity grows from 7,000 all the way to 9,000-pounds. The three-row SUV also gets adaptive variable suspension, load-leveling rear height control air suspension, and trailer backup guide. All of that towing tech should make hauling a breeze but it’s just the beginning of what the Sequoia offers.

Technology Comes To The Forefront

Every single one of the five 2023 Toyota Sequoia trim levels will come with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. It includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision mitigation, and even emergency steering assist. Not all of the cool tech is about safety though. Toyota has finally added wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay to the Sequoia. It’s paired with an 8-inch infotainment screen on base trims but a larger 14-inch version is also available.

That advanced infotainment system is complemented by a standard 12.3-inch driver information display. Buyers can also opt for trims or packages that include 120-volt power outlets, a hands-free liftgate, a 14-speaker JBL premium audio system, and even wireless device charging. It’s clear that yes indeed, good things come to those who wait. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia will be available in the summer of 2022.
