Corvette fans will soon be able to take a bit of racing history home with the announcement of a Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Special Edition. This limited-run Chevy highlights the successes of the No. 3 and No. 4 C8.R racers in the 2020 IMSA racing series during their debut year in competition.
And, a track-oriented version of the stellar C8 Corvette Stingray, these C8.R models dominated IMSA’s sports car champion series, taking the Manufacturers, Drivers, and Team titles.

Racing is in the Corvette’s DNA
“Racing has been part of the Corvette’s DNA from nearly the beginning,” said Laura Klauser, General Motors Sports Car Program manager. “Both the Corvette Stingray and C8.R have seen tremendous success capitalizing on the benefits of a mid-engine platform – and we’re just getting started.”

Already one of the best sport car bargains on the planet, the eighth-generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is highly praised by both enthusiasts and the media for world-class performance and its breakthrough mid-engine design, a first for the Vette. The car is also one of the best sports car bargains on the planet. The automaker reports it will build just 1,000 units of the 2022 Corvette Stingray IMSA GTLM Championship Edition exclusively for “left-hand drive markets.” In other words, Chevy will direct some of the production overseas, but the automaker hasn’t shared the specifics.
Your Own Version of the C8.R Corvette Racer
Chevy will produce these limited-edition Corvettes in Accelerate Yellow and Hypersonic Gray. The yellow version includes unique gray graphics and will take on the looks of the No. 3 C8.R IMSA Vette. In contrast, the gray special edition with distinctive yellow graphics will mirror the No. 4 racer. Of course, a special edition won’t be special if it doesn’t stay all clean and shiny. So, Chevy is including an exclusive indoor cover with each car.
Other exterior features include:
- High-wing spoiler in Carbon Flash
- Yellow brake calipers
- Black Trident design wheels, with the “Jake” logo on the center caps and black lug nuts
- Exterior mirrors in Carbon Flash
- Black side rockers

Comfort Or Competition – In Your Chevy Corvette Stingray Special Edition
Unlike the actual C8.R racers, which have barebones cabins, these special edition Corvettes will be based on the top 3LT trim, so the interior experience should all be about comfort. But, if that’s not enough, you can add the competition sport seats. And, also unlike the C8.R cars, these special editions will be street legal.
The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Special Edition will only be available on Vettes configured with the 3LT option and the Z51 Performance Package. Add in the $6,595 for the special edition upgrade, and this Corvette starts at around $85,500. The 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has a $62,195 base price. Regardless of the model and trim, the C8 Vette is still a supercar at a super price.
