One huge bidder won’t have to wait long for the first GMC Hummer EV supertruck. That’s thanks to a $2.5 million bid at a Barrett-Jackson charity auction. The anonymous buyer will receive the first retail Edition 1 model when it releases later this year. Also, the entire bid for the GMC Hummer EV raises funds for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and makes this Hummer one of the most expensive EVs ever sold.

Strong Demand For Hummer EV
Forgive the pun, but GM is on a roll with the electrified Hummer pickup. It only took ten minutes to sell out of the Edition 1 models when these six-figure pickups went on sale in December. If you don’t mind waiting until 2024, you can reserve a lower-priced Hummer EV2, which starts at $79,995. Intermediate models, slotted between the Edition 1 and the EV2, will release over the next two years.
The auction for the first GMC Hummer EV raises vital funds for the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. This non-profit organization provides mortgage-free, accessible smart homes for severely injured veterans. In addition, the group grants mortgage-free homes to families of service members and first responders killed in the line of duty.
New Hummer Electric Vehicle Continues The “Extreme” Traditions
The Edition 1 launch model embraces the extremeness that brought Hummer to prominence in its original heyday. Unlike the torquey but lumbering original Hummers, Edition 1 does have over-the-top power. A three-motor AWD setup promises 1,000 horsepower and a mind-numbing 11,5000 lb-ft of torque. This results in neck-snapping acceleration and a three-second time for a 0-60 mph run. GM calls this outrageous speed “Watts to Freedom,” as in WTF, and giving Tesla’s Ludicrous mode a run for the money.

Rugged capability will carry over to the new Hummer, too, as Edition 1 models include the Extreme Off-Road Package. This feature includes 35-inch tires, underbody armor, and an underbody camera system. Getting out of tight situations will be easier as well. The pickup’s CrabWalk function includes four-wheel steering and diagonal-driving capability. Moreover, Edition 1 has 800-volt DC fast charging and GM’s praised SuperCruise driver aid.
Hummer EV Assembly Starts In Late 2021
Assembly of the Hummer EV will begin in late 2021 at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck factory. The 4 million square foot facility was retooled for EV production under a $2.2 billion company investment. The plant opened in 1985 and first began production of Cadillac Eldorados.
GMC recently opened up reservations for the Hummer EV SUV. And below you can watch the GMC Hummer EV Supertruck and SUV sharing the spotlight in a commercial running during the NCAA tournament. The spot is voiced by LeBron James.
