Reynolds Buick GMC is a rarity in the new franchise car business. Because for more than 100-years the dealership has been owned and operated by the same family.
So, Don Reynolds is the third-generation currently running the store. His dad Pete Reynolds ran it before him. While his grandfather, Irven “Pop” Reynolds was the founder – way back in 1915!
Therefore, Reynolds Buick GMC has existed since before the US entered World War I. Additionally, the Reynolds family has been serving the automotive needs of Southern California since before the invention of television!
But here’s what’s really significant. While new car dealerships are constantly sold, bought, and sold again. All this time, the Reynolds family has dedicated itself to serving Southern Californians. And literally, for generations!
In fact, Pop Reynolds was the first Buick dealer in the Covina area. And Pop started his business similar to how tech-start-ups operate today. Lean, with minimal resources. He had a desk that he rented in a local gas station. And, he used his own Buick for test drives while selling new cars from brochures. In 1922 Pop moved the dealership to the southeast corner of Citrus and Badillo.
Pete Reynolds took over from Pop in 1958. And he took the business to the next level with promotion. Specifically, he became part of a history-making drag racing team. (One of their cars is pictured above.) And that team brought national attention to the dealership while also setting records. During that growth period, Pete moved Reynolds Buick GMC to its current location at 345 Citrus Avenue in West Covina.
Then in 1999 Pop’s grandson, Don became the torchbearer of the family legacy. And he’s carried on by building on his dad’s and granddad’s success.
With the help of General Manager Chuck Rhodes, Reynolds Buick GMC has undergone a complete remodel in recent years. And the dealership is immaculately maintained.
From the custom paved service drive to the pristine showroom and the entire facility. Plus, soon the dealership will be serving Southern Californian’s EV needs. As the GMC Hummer EV Supertruck and SUV charge into the region.
Reynolds Buick GMC And iDriveSoCal
Indeed, lots of dealerships say they are ‘family-owned and operated.’ But the family at Reynolds Buick GMC takes that concept to an unprecedented level. And I love that. Because of their commitment to the community they serve. But also because of the living history that continues doing so. It’s admirable.
And so, iDriveSoCal is both humbled and honored to have Reynolds Buick GMC as an official partner. We highly recommend you see them for all your Buick GMC sales and service needs.
