2021 Volkswagen Atlas best family car: Parents magazine highlights
To establish its list of top family cars, Parents magazine tested multiple minivans, SUVs, and sedans. They evaluated each for factors that matter most to families, like safety and comfort. Their experts ran tests to tease out the winners. Ultimately, they arrived at a list of 24 honorees.
The Atlas rose to the top for its comfort, safety features, and driving abilities. Additionally, the magazine praised the car’s multi-zone climate control and bench-style seating. Above all, Parents said that the VW Atlas provides the most bang for your buck in the sport utility vehicle category. The SUV’s mix of affordability, safety, and comfort makes it an obvious choice for families.
2021 Volkswagen Atlas features
VW introduced the Atlas in 2017. As the company’s first three-row SUV, the car offers plenty of capacity while being compact and highly maneuverable. It’s also quite customizable with two engine options and eight trim packages.
Furthermore, each Atlas model includes VW’s 4Motion technology. This all-wheel-drive system enhances the car’s handling, with extra traction and control around turns. The smart system distributes force to each wheel depending on the movement of the car.

Next, the Atlas comes equipped with Car-Net, an infotainment center packed with features that are free for the first five years of ownership. In-car WiFi is another perk — it’s easy to access the internet while on the go in the Atlas.
The SUV has a number of safety features that separate it from the competition. The list includes collision warning systems, autonomous emergency braking, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assistance. Further, Atlas models have headlight controls and parking assistance features for added safety.
2021 Atlas pricing and warranties
As Parents magazine pointed out, the Atlas is a well-priced, value-filled SUV. The 2.0-liter Atlas S starts at $31,545, while the 3.6-liter models begin at $38,295. Pricing varies depending on the trim package and additional features that you select.

Up to 96.8 cu-ft of cargo space
The warranty is another big selling point. VW offers bumper-to-bumper coverage for four years or 50,000 miles, whichever you hit first. Next, there’s the Carefree Maintenance Program, which covers scheduled maintenance tasks for two years or 20,000 miles.
Whether you have a family or you’re traveling solo, the VW Atlas is a versatile, powerful SUV that’s filled with attractive features. It’s certainly worth a test drive if you’re in the market for a great midsize vehicle.
