The Volkswagen Taos is a brand new model entry from VW.  It’s a subcompact SUV that slots below the compact Tiguan.

Dealers like Ontario Volkswagen have been calling for a vehicle to fill that segment for quite some time.  The first model year for Taos will be 2022.

And VW Group of America CEO, Scott Keogh points out that Taos is their “fifth new addition to the VW SUV family in just four years.”

The 2022 VW Taos will come with a 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder.  It will deliver 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.  With VW’s all-wheel-drive 4Motion it will be paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.  And with two-wheel drive (front) it will come with an 8-speed automatic trans.

Volkswagen SUV Family:

  • Atlas – full-size/midsize
  • Atlas Cross Sport – midsize
  • Tiguan – compact
  • Taos – subcompact
  • ID.4 – compact/subcompact electric vehicle

Outside: 2022 Volkswagen Taos

Like its fuel-consuming lineage, Taos displays very similar characteristics around the outside.  With a bold front end, sculpted hood, and an LED lighting arrangement akin to the Atlas Cross Sport.  Another nod to other VW SUV characteristics is on the grill.  Because on top trims the illuminated light line stretching from the logo is similar to the ID.4 EV.

The 2022 VW Taos will be offered in 8-different exterior colors.  Plus it will offer four-different wheel designs ranging from 17 to 19-inch wheels.  And a panoramic sunroof will also be available.

From nose to tail Taos will be 175.8 inches long.  That’s 9.3 inches shorter than Tiguan.

Interior

Inside Taos will include Volkswagen’s legendary fit and finish.  That attention to detail discriminating drivers, and passengers, appreciate.

But, while Taos is that much shorter than Tiguan, it’s still spacious inside.  Because it delivers 99.5 cubic-feet of passenger space.  And that’s just 1.6 cu-ft less than two-row Tiguan.  (Tiguan is available with 3-rows.)

40.1 inches front legroom

Plus with 40.1 inches of legroom in the front and 37.9 in the rear, the subcompact aims to be plenty comfortable.

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos will come standard with two-tone seats.  And that’s whether they’re cloth, leather, or leatherette.

Technology & Driver Assistance

Also standard will be Volkswagen’s Digital Cockpit.  This is impressive because it replaces the old-school in-dash instrument clusters we’re used to with a customizable monitor.  And that allows you to place vehicle monitoring metrics wherever you are most comfortable.

Additionally, Volkswagen Car-Net comes standard.  And top trims offer 10-color ambient lighting options and a premium BeatsAudio sound system.

Volkswagen’s IQ. Drive is available on all Taos models as well.  And that’s a suite of available driver assistance and safety features.

The all-new 2022 Volkswagen Taos is scheduled to be available this coming summer of 2021.
