After decades of customer demand, the icon is returning. The new VW ID.Buzz Electric Microbus is in production and will go on sale this year in Europe.
It arrives in two variations including a five-passenger short-wheelbase model as well as a cargo van variant.

Volkswagen has managed to remain true to the 2018 LA Autoshow concept shown in our lead image. The VW ID.Buzz Electric Microbus strengthens the brand’s all-electric lineup of EVs. It also signals a shift of focus to sustainability.

VW ID.Buzz Passenger version
We know that because VW just unwrapped the production version of the European-spec ID.Buzz. Now we’re getting an idea of how much this van will cost. In addition, we’re seeing more of the final production interior features than ever before and we have a slightly better idea of when it’ll roll onto American shores.
VW ID.Buzz Price
Despite a lengthy press campaign involving the VW ID.Buzz Electric Microbus, the company has yet to release any details about pricing.
That goes both for the US, UK, and European markets. That’s also applicable to both the passenger van and the cargo version. While initial hopes were that the van would start around $40,000 it seems more likely that it’ll come in around $60,000.

Last month, multiple German news outlets reported that Volkswagen was hoping to price the ID.Buzz at “below €60,000”. At current exchange rates, that’s around $65,000.
Keep in mind though that it doesn’t factor in any potential tax rebates that might be available. While some might be shocked to pay Land Rover money for a Volkswagen, it looks like this is the most advanced ID yet.
Interior And Camper
A special California Camper version of the VW ID.Buzz Electric Microbus is slated for production at some point. While we don’t have specific details on what features it might have, the Euro-spec model gives us some hints.
Two captain’s chairs make up the front seating section while a bench sits behind that. In the back of the ID.Buzz, owners will find at least 40 cubic feet of cargo space.

And it’s space that the ID.Buzz really highlights. Thanks to nearly vertical sides, there’s just a ton of space on the inside of the van.
It’s also filled with technology. Each van will come equipped with a 10-inch infotainment system. A large 12-inch driver information display is also available. If you’ve used the system in the current ID.4, it should feel similar to touchscreen sliders and physical HVAC controls.
Interestingly, we’re going to get an even bigger version of the Buzz here in the states. Volkswagen says it’ll add a third row to our version as well. It has yet to be revealed though.

Release Date And Pre-Order
Regarding that reveal, Volkswagen says to be patient. The Euro model is going on sale this year in the third quarter.
Sometime in 2023, we can expect to see the unveiling of the North American VW ID.Buzz Electric Microbus. Then, sometime in 2024, Volkswagen says that it’ll go on sale here in the states.
Considering VW has been showing off similar concepts since 2001, a couple more years won’t hurt. Now we know it’s coming for sure and that it looks like the perfect companion for the Californian sunset.
