Mendelnhall's Museum of Gasoline - Buellton, California

Housing one of the largest collections of gas station memorabilia on the West Coast, the museum showcases an extensive selection of vintage gasoline pumps, oil company globes, road signs, and racing artifacts.

This impressive display traces its roots back over 50 years to Jack Mendenhall, whose fascination with roadside Americana led to the creation of this extensive collection. Over time, what began as a personal passion evolved into a well-preserved museum, now carefully maintained by his son Mark and daughter-in-law Vickie.

The museum sits on the original site of Jack’s wrecking yard, featuring an eclectic assortment of antique race cars, classic automotive memorabilia, and industrial artifacts that highlight the golden era of motoring and racing.

A Tribute to Land Speed Racing

Beyond its vast petroliana display, the museum also honors land speed racing legends through its role as the home of the Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame. Every two years in April, the museum hosts a special induction ceremony, recognizing pioneers of high-speed racing and their contributions to the sport.

Jack and Mark Mendenhall were both actively involved in land speed racing, with each earning a place in the 200 MPH Club, Jack in 1991 and Mark in 1996. Jack’s dedication to the sport earned him a place in the Land Speed Hall of Fame in 1993, and his legacy remains a vital part of the museum.

The museum is open by appointment and offers private tours for individuals, clubs, and groups interested in automotive history. Additionally, the venue is available for special events, including weddings, reunions, and car club gatherings, making it a unique setting for memorable occasions.
