Pomona Dragstrip
Located within the Fairplex grounds in Pomona, California, the In-N-Out Burger Pomona Dragstrip is a cornerstone of American drag racing. Renowned for its rich history and high-speed action, the venue serves as both the starting and finishing point of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) season. Since the 1961 debut of the Winter Nationals, Pomona has become synonymous with iconic races that attract fans and drivers from across the globe.
The dragstrip’s origins are deeply rooted in community collaboration. In the early 1950s, local car enthusiasts, led by a forward-thinking police officer and city officials, the “Choppers of Pomona”, transformed a gravel parking lot into a dedicated racing space. Their goal? To provide a safer environment for youth drawn to the thrill of high-speed competition. The result was a venue that not only curbed illegal street racing but also paved the way for the NHRA’s first sanctioned events.
