Who They Are

The University of California Riverside EcoCAR Team represents the next generation of innovators driving the future of sustainable transportation. Based at UCR’s Center for Environmental Research and Technology (CE-CERT), the student-led organization is part of the prestigious U.S. Department of Energy’s EcoCAR EV Challenge, where select North American universities compete to re-engineer a Cadillac LYRIQ into a more efficient, connected, and automated electric vehicle. As one of only 15 universities chosen for the program, UCR EcoCAR stands out for blending advanced research with real-world automotive engineering.

What They Do

EcoCAR members collaborate across disciplines, engineering, business, communications, and public policy, to design, test, and refine an electrified vehicle capable of meeting stringent sustainability and performance goals. The team participates in national competitions that push innovation in EV propulsion, automation, and energy optimization. Beyond the lab, they engage in STEM outreach across Southern California, mentoring local students and promoting awareness about clean transportation technologies. Their annual Vehicle Showcase and STEM Open House at CE-CERT offers the public a hands-on look at the team’s progress and the broader potential of electric mobility.

How to Join & Get in Touch

UCR EcoCAR welcomes University of California, Riverside students from all majors who are interested in automotive innovation, sustainability, and hands-on engineering projects.
