Woodies at the Beach is rolling back into Santa Barbara for another summer gathering dedicated to one of the most recognizable and collectible vehicles ever built. Even people who are not deeply into classic cars usually stop when they see a beautifully restored Woodie. There is just something about all that handcrafted wood that never goes unnoticed.
You don't come to this show expecting endless rows of muscle cars or modern exotics. This is a chance to slow down and appreciate a very different chapter of automotive history. Wood-bodied wagons from across the country fill the Great Meadow, each carrying its own story of restoration, preservation, and craftsmanship. Walk the field long enough and you'll notice that no two seem exactly alike. Different wood grains, trim details, and years give every vehicle its own personality, which is part of what makes this gathering so enjoyable.
Organized by the Santa Barbara Woodie Club, the event has become a tradition for enthusiasts who share a passion for these rare classics. Along with the vehicles themselves, visitors can learn about the history of Woodies, how they're restored, and what it takes to preserve them decades after they first left the factory. Food trucks, raffles, a silent auction, and event merchandise add to the day's activities, while proceeds help support Unity Shoppe and the Scott Isaacson Auto Technology Scholarship, giving the event a meaningful connection to the local community.
Set on the Great Meadow at Santa Barbara City College, the show enjoys a location that feels made for an event like this. With the coastline just beyond the grounds, the relaxed beach-town atmosphere pairs naturally with the timeless character of these vintage wagons.
